Real Madrid remain determined to sign Enzo Fernández this summer, with both the club and José Mourinho identifying the Argentine as a priority target to strengthen the midfield.
According to journalist Miguel Látigo Serrano, Fernández is eager to join Real Madrid, but negotiations with Chelsea remain the biggest obstacle. The Premier League club continue to value the midfielder at around €120 million, a figure the Spanish side consider too high.
The report adds that Chelsea would welcome a sale from a financial perspective and may even view it as an important part of their plans. However, new head coach Xabi Alonso is reportedly opposed to the move and wants Fernández to remain at Stamford Bridge as a cornerstone of his project.
Fernández is said to have been laying the groundwork for a potential departure for some time, although the complexity of negotiations means a transfer is far from guaranteed.
Real Madrid are unwilling to meet Chelsea's current valuation and hope the situation could change if the player pushes for the move once Argentina's World Cup campaign comes to an end.
According to the report, Chelsea are unlikely to lower their demands easily, meaning the transfer could become one of the biggest sagas of the summer window.
