According to MARCA, Ibrahima Konaté has informed Liverpool that he is open to leaving Anfield this summer, but only for one club: Real Madrid. While the French defender has no issues with the club or its management, he has made it clear that a move to the Santiago Bernabéu is his sole priority.

Liverpool are aware of Konaté’s intentions but are unlikely to facilitate an easy exit. The club wants to secure fair financial compensation and is expected to play hardball, much like they did in the past with key players.

Unlike Mohamed Salah or Virgil van Dijk, whose situations were handled with caution and patience, Konaté has already turned down two external offers, signaling a strong and exclusive desire to join Real Madrid.

Within the club, Liverpool see parallels to their previous dealings involving Trent Alexander-Arnold, who ultimately moved to Madrid on a free transfer.

The defender, for his part, is willing to wait. He has rejected contract extensions and alternative destinations, remaining firm in his wish to wear the white shirt of Madrid, even if it means prioritizing the move over financial gain.

Meanwhile, in Madrid, concerns over the defensive line are mounting. A string of injuries and critical errors by players expected to lead the backline have cast doubts on the team’s stability. Although the club had initially planned any move for Konaté to happen next summer, circumstances have shifted.

Following a disappointing Club World Cup campaign, Xabi Alonso is reportedly pushing for immediate reinforcements. Described internally as plagued by “childish mistakes” and a lack of basic tactical understanding, Madrid’s defense is now a priority area for improvement.

Despite officially denying any active transfer negotiations, Real Madrid are now reassessing the urgency of the Konaté operation. Yet in a tight market, finding a player of his caliber remains a difficult task, making the Frenchman a clear first-choice target.
