Xabi Alonso was officially unveiled as the new Real Madrid manager in a heartfelt presentation held at Real Madrid City. The ceremony began with an emotional video highlighting Alonso’s journey as both a player and a manager. It was followed by a powerful speech from President Florentino Pérez, who emphasized the symbolic importance of the day for all Real Madrid fans.
"This is a very special day for all of us who are passionate about Real Madrid,” Pérez declared. “It marks the start of a new era filled with excitement and emotion. A new manager arrives—already one of the best in the world—who embodies all the values of this club. He understands better than anyone what this badge and this shirt mean.”
The president reflected on Alonso’s role in Real Madrid’s modern history, especially highlighting his contribution to La Décima, the club’s 10th European Cup triumph in Lisbon. He also praised Alonso’s coaching career—from his beginnings with Real Madrid’s youth team to his historic success at Bayer Leverkusen, where he guided the German club to its first-ever Bundesliga title, German Super Cup, and German Cup.
"Your journey already makes you one of the greatest figures in world football,” said Pérez. “And today you return to Real Madrid to face one of the biggest challenges of your life. You will have a fanbase that loves and admires you. We are convinced that together we will celebrate many more victories.”
Xabi Alonso, who has signed a three-year deal, then addressed those present: "This is a day I’ll never forget,” Alonso said. “I’m very happy to be back home. Even though I’ve been away for a few years, the connection with Real Madrid has always remained. From the moment I returned to Valdebebas, that feeling reignited. I’m grateful to the president for believing in me and entrusting me with this new era, which I face with energy and excitement.”
Alonso paid tribute to Carlo Ancelotti, calling him a major influence in his career: "Ancelotti was my coach, and without what I learned from him, I wouldn’t be here. I take over his legacy with pride. I hope I can live up to expectations. We have a great team and a fantastic challenge ahead. We want to make the fans proud, to bring joy and emotion to the Bernabéu. Hala Madrid!”
