Until now, Real Madrid had been one of the few major European clubs or national teams that still trained at the match venue before each game. That tradition will change next Monday, as Xabi Alonso has decided that his players will hold their final training session at Valdebebas at 11:00 a.m. before traveling to Liverpool in the afternoon. The team will only visit Anfield later for the pre-match press conference, attended by the coach and one player.

With this move, Real Madrid revisits a practice from the José Mourinho era. The Portuguese coach was the first — and until now, the only — manager to choose training at Valdebebas instead of the away venue. Now, Xabi Alonso follows that same approach.

The session at Valdebebas, scheduled for 11:00 a.m., will be open to the media for the first 15 minutes. Afterward, the team will have lunch and then depart for Liverpool at 4:00 p.m., landing at around 5:35 p.m. local time (one hour behind Spain). Upon arrival, the squad and coaching staff will head to the INNSiDE by Meliá Liverpool hotel, while Xabi Alonso and a player, accompanied by the club’s communications team, will go directly to Anfield for the official press conference.

On matchday, both clubs’ executives will meet for an official lunch at The Art School restaurant at 1:30 p.m. local time. Meanwhile, at 2:00 p.m., Real Madrid’s Juvenil A team will face Liverpool’s youth side in the UEFA Youth League at the AXA Training Centre.

After the match, the Real Madrid delegation will depart by bus to Liverpool Airport to take the special flight IB1402 back to Madrid, leaving at 11:55 p.m. local time and arriving at around 3:25 a.m. at Terminal 4 of Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas Airport.
