Xabi Alonso is on the verge of returning to Real Madrid—this time, as the manager. According to Matteo Moretto of Relevo, the current Bayer Leverkusen coach is just one step away from reaching a full agreement with the Spanish giants. Barring any last-minute surprises, Alonso is expected to take charge of the new Madrid project starting in the 2025/26 season.

In the coming days, Alonso is set to meet with Leverkusen’s management to inform them of his decision to leave. Real Madrid, in turn, will activate the release clause in his contract to secure the Basque manager's services.

The timing aligns with Carlo Ancelotti's expected exit. Reports indicate that the Italian is finalizing terms with the Brazilian national team and has already given his word to take over once La Liga concludes.

Unless plans change, Ancelotti will depart at the end of May or early June. However, Alonso is likely to assume his new role after the Club World Cup. Santiago Solari is expected to guide Real Madrid during the international tournament before handing over the reins to the incoming coach.
