The annual meeting of professional football coaches took place on Tuesday at the Ciudad del Fútbol in Las Rozas, gathering nearly all First and Second Division managers to debate the present and future of Spanish football.
Among the most notable attendees were Barcelona boss Hansi Flick and Real Madrid’s Xabi Alonso, who crossed paths for the first time since Alonso took over from Carlo Ancelotti, setting the stage for this season’s eagerly awaited Clásico battles.
They were joined by other top-flight figures such as Atlético Madrid’s Diego Simeone in what the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) described as an open and constructive dialogue aimed at tackling challenges and fostering unity.
The summit was hosted by RFEF President Rafael Louzán, who stressed the importance of collaboration. “You are at home; your opinions are essential for our continued growth,” he told the coaches, applauding their dedication to Spanish football.
Louzán highlighted the strong relationship between the Federation, La Liga, and clubs: “Although we may have different opinions, the goal is always to reach an agreement for the good of Spanish football.”
The gathering concluded with a symbolic “family photograph,” which the RFEF said reflected unprecedented unity among the coaches.
Another key voice at the summit was Francisco Soto, the recently appointed president of the Technical Committee of Referees (CTA). He laid out his vision for a more empathetic and merit-based refereeing model, pledging to reduce reliance on VAR.
“It’s a new era, and I ask for your trust,” Soto said. “We are committed to humanising refereeing and ensuring fairness in every decision.”
