Real Madrid continue to show their special connection with the UEFA Champions League, a competition where the team often seems to transform. That transformation is also reflected in several players, including Vinícius Júnior, who once again delivered a decisive performance on the European stage.
After the victory over Manchester City, the Brazilian winger added another historic milestone to his career. With the assist credited by UEFA for Federico Valverde’s goal, Vinícius reached 31 assists in the Champions League with Real Madrid.
That number allows him to equal the club record previously held by Cristiano Ronaldo, making both players the top assist providers for Real Madrid in Europe’s elite competition. Remarkably, Vinícius achieved this mark in just 79 matches, 26 fewer than the 105 appearances it took the Portuguese star to reach the same total.
With many years of football still ahead of him, the Brazilian’s tally is expected to continue growing. On the same night, he also set another impressive mark by becoming only the second player in Champions League history to record ten or more assists in five consecutive seasons.
