Vinícius Júnior continued to strengthen his record in the Champions League with a decisive performance in the second leg of the round of 16 against Manchester City.
The Brazilian forward scored twice to lead Real Madrid to a 2-1 victory at the Etihad Stadium, silencing sections of the crowd who had been jeering him throughout the match.
With those two goals, Vinícius increased his total to 16 goals in Champions League knockout stage matches during his career, further cementing his reputation for delivering in decisive moments.
The Brazilian winger now ranks third among Real Madrid players with the most goals in Champions League knockout rounds. Cristiano Ronaldo leads the list with 50 goals, followed by Karim Benzema with 33.
Vinícius surpassed the tally of Raúl González, who scored 15 goals in the competition’s knockout stages for Real Madrid. Despite the milestone, the Brazilian still has a considerable gap to close if he hopes to challenge the club’s all time leaders.
