Real Madrid’s medical room continues to fill as both Lucas Vázquez and Vinicius Junior are now confirmed injuries. Lucas’s condition offers a glimmer of hope—he’s definitively ruled out for the clash against Mallorca and is almost certainly missing for the Sevilla game, but there remains a slim possibility of him being fit in time for Real Sociedad. Vinicius’s outlook, however, is far less encouraging. It’s highly likely he won’t feature again in La Liga this season. With the Club World Cup on the horizon, the club sees no need to take risks.
The concern over Vinicius began on the bench at Montjuïc, where he was visibly in pain. He has been diagnosed with a Grade II sprain in his left ankle—a manageable injury, but one that demands rest. The recovery period is estimated at around two weeks, making a return for the final league match extremely tight. Internally, the term being used is “to force,” but the general consensus is that it won’t be worth it.
Lucas Vázquez is dealing with an injury to his left pectineus muscle. While not severe, it will sideline him for a similar timeframe—around a week to ten days. His situation is slightly more optimistic. He will miss Mallorca, is very unlikely to be fit for Sevilla, but could return against Real Sociedad. That match holds particular significance for him, as it is expected to be his farewell at the Santiago Bernabéu. The club will not be offering him a new contract, making this a likely goodbye.
Real Madrid is now limping toward the season’s end. Without Vinicius, there’s at least a clear option: Mbappé and Rodrygo will rotate on the left wing for the final fixtures. But on the right side of defense, things are far more complicated. With Lucas out, the only solutions are to adapt Valverde or Asencio. The Mallorca match, in particular, poses a major dilemma, especially since Tchouameni is suspended, ruling him out as a replacement for Asencio.
These next three games will be Ancelotti’s final test in charge of Real Madrid. A tactical puzzle stretched across a depleted squad. From now until May 25, the club must navigate through these challenges without the long-term absentees: Carvajal, Militão, Rüdiger, Alaba, Mendy, and Camavinga. To that list, Vinicius and Lucas Vázquez have now been added. Both are expected to miss the remainder of the season.
