Real Madrid returned to winning ways in Athens after a challenging spell. The team had gone three games without a victory, which sparked speculation about the atmosphere within the squad and Xabi Alonso's leadership. Yet in football, nothing restores calm like a win, and the triumph against Olympiacos helped rebuild unity. Mbappé expressed this on the pitch at the Giorgios Karaiskakis Stadium, and hours later, Fede Valverde reinforced the message.
“It’s not always easy, but the coaching staff and the players are more united than ever,” the Uruguayan wrote on Instagram, sharing a photo celebrating one of Mbappé’s four goals alongside Vinicius.
Valverde was one of the players linked to rumors about Xabi’s relationship with the dressing room. The Hawk, who has frequently worn the captain’s armband in Carvajal’s absence, publicly voiced his frustration at playing as a right-back before the match against Kairat Almaty back in late September. With Trent back in the lineup, Valverde has returned to midfield, where he featured as a winger in Athens.
Valverde’s full statement
After a week filled with comments, we are more united than ever. Having Vini and Mbappé is a blessing, but having the best team in the world fully committed is an honor.
Personally, I am working hard to return to my best level. The manager has supported me at all times, doing everything possible to help me grow and contribute to the team.
It’s not always easy, but the coaching staff and the players are more united than ever.
