Federico Valverde produced one of his standout performances of the season as Real Madrid climbed to the top of LaLiga with a commanding 4-1 victory over Real Sociedad at the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium.
The Uruguayan captain dominated the midfield with his usual intensity and added Madrid’s third goal in the 31st minute, a powerful strike that further underlined his influence on the game.
Despite the strong display, Valverde left the pitch frustrated. In the 73rd minute, head coach Álvaro Arbeloa decided to substitute him, bringing on Brahim Díaz. As he reached the bench after greeting the coaching staff, Valverde vented his annoyance by striking a cooler before sitting down.
He later clarified the moment on social media with humor: “Relax, friends — the cool box isn’t to blame for me regretting a missed chance to shoot,” he wrote, adding several laughing emojis to underline the light-hearted tone.
A fiery competitor to the last whistle, even on a night when everything seemed to go right for Madrid.
