Víctor Valdepeñas experienced a night he will never forget at Mendizorroza, making his official debut for Real Madrid. The Castilla defender was named in the starting XI and completed 78 minutes in his first appearance with the first team.
After the match, an emotional Valdepeñas spoke to Realmadrid TV and struggled to hide what the moment meant to him: “It’s a dream, the dream of any child. I’ve been dreaming of this since I started playing football, and today I was able to make it come true. What I feel is indescribable. I’m absolutely thrilled.”
The young defender admitted the nerves were there early on, but credited his teammates for helping him through it: “At first I was nervous, I won’t lie, but my teammates calmed me down. I want to thank them and the captains. It’s not every day you make your debut with Real Madrid, and even more so as a starter, but thanks to everyone I managed it well.”
Valdepeñas already knows what will happen to the shirt from his debut: “This jersey is going in my room. I’m going to frame it so I can see it every day and remember this moment.”
Having been at the club since childhood, the occasion carried extra meaning: “I’ve been here since I was very young, and we’ve put in a lot of work. Now we have to be consistent and keep believing.”
Currently in his first season with Castilla and a Spain U19 international, Valdepeñas joined Real Madrid in 2018, starting out with Infantil B, and has now taken his first step with the senior side.
