UEFA has confirmed that it has received a substantial amount of documentation from Real Madrid related to its ongoing investigation into Barcelona in the Negreira Case.
"UEFA confirms it has received a substantial amount of documents from Real Madrid CF related to the ongoing investigation into FC Barcelona in the case of José María Enríquez Negreira, former vice-president of the Technical Committee of Referees of the Royal Spanish Football Federation (the so-called 'Negreira case')." The governing body also stated that its ethics and disciplinary inspectors have received the documents and will analyze them as part of their review.
Real Madrid had reportedly prepared a comprehensive dossier on the case and submitted the material to UEFA as it sought to have the matter examined at European level. UEFA had previously appointed ethics and disciplinary inspectors to investigate a potential violation of its legal framework by Barcelona in connection with the Negreira Case.
The Spanish investigation is expected to conclude at the end of 2026, with a trial scheduled for the following year. Real Madrid had requested an extension of the investigation, but the judge overseeing the case rejected the request.
Real Madrid has also improved its relationship with UEFA following years of tension surrounding the Super League project. In February 2026, UEFA, the European Football Clubs and Real Madrid announced an agreement of principles aimed at resolving their legal disputes related to the Super League.
The next step now rests with UEFA, which will assess the documentation submitted by Real Madrid alongside the arguments presented by Barcelona before determining whether any disciplinary action is warranted.
