Real Madrid and the Madrid City Council will need to continue their legal battle to make the two planned parking garages a reality—one on Paseo de la Castellana and the other on Calle Padre Damián. The council had awarded the project to Real Madrid, but in the first-instance appeal before the 30th Administrative Court of Madrid, Judge Carmen Casado upheld the objections of local residents. The City Council then appealed to the Madrid High Court of Justice (TSJM), which has once again sided with the neighborhood residents.

According to El Confidencial, the TSJM ruled that the City Council “has failed to demonstrate that constructing the two parking garages—including a direct connection to the Bernabéu’s own parking—serves a public and general interest under Urban Planning and the Special Plan.”

The Neighborhood Association of Those Affected by the Bernabéu scores another victory, though the decision can still be appealed to the Supreme Court. For Real Madrid, the project is crucial to providing the stadium with the infrastructure needed to realize the multipurpose Bernabéu project, allowing it to host concerts and a variety of sporting events beyond football matches.
