Rodrygo’s fate at Real Madrid is becoming a pressing issue that needs resolution soon. With Xabi Alonso rarely using the Brazilian since taking over, the club appears open to a sale, and the player himself is now actively exploring a departure.

Tottenham Hotspur is emerging as the leading contender for his signature. Reports from England indicate the London club has already requested permission to begin direct talks with Rodrygo. However, this isn’t expected to be a straightforward transfer — there are still many details to iron out.

Spurs have ramped up their pursuit thanks to fresh investment, which has already fueled nearly €150 million in signings this summer. But they want Rodrygo to be the crown jewel of Thomas Frank’s new project, though not at any cost. Real Madrid have placed a €90 million price tag on the forward, a figure that would be unthinkable for most clubs, but in line with typical Premier League spending.

Tottenham, led by master negotiator Daniel Levy, has drawn a firm line: either they pay the €90 million Madrid wants, or they match the player’s high salary demands, over €10 million net per season. But they won’t do both.

For Spurs, Rodrygo fits the profile perfectly: young, high-potential, and capable of leading their attack, especially with Heung-min Son potentially nearing a move to MLS side LAFC.

Timing could work in Tottenham’s favor. While several Premier League clubs had shown interest in Rodrygo early in the summer, most have since looked elsewhere. Chelsea are pushing for Xavi Simons, and Liverpool’s focus shifted after Alexander Isak became available. Arsenal remains a wild card; sporting director Andrea Berta admires Rodrygo, but the recent €85 million acquisition of Viktor Gyökeres has limited their financial flexibility.

As of now, Tottenham is the only club in serious pursuit of the Brazilian.

Rodrygo, however, is still mentally in Madrid. He, the club, and the coaching staff agreed to revisit his situation after the holidays. He won’t block an exit as long as he has a say in the destination. With the transfer window at its midpoint, time is running out. The decision can’t wait much longer. It’s now or never.
