Toni Nadal analyzed the current situation at Real Madrid during an appearance on the program Radioestadio Noche, drawing comparisons between football and elite tennis.
Speaking on Onda Cero, the uncle and former coach of Rafael Nadal stressed the importance of maximum commitment from players.
"I was lucky enough to coach Rafa, who always gave 100%, always pushed himself to the limit; I can't imagine anything less than that. I understand not playing well, but not not giving 100%."
A well-known supporter of Barcelona, Toni Nadal also spoke about the possible arrival of José Mourinho at Real Madrid.
"I think Mourinho will have enough of a firm hand to convince people that they have to give 100%."
"Mou is a good coach and he will make them understand that, that they have to go to the limit."
Toni Nadal admitted he does not understand the inconsistency shown by Real Madrid this season, especially against smaller opponents.
"A Real Madrid player should commit to giving his all in every match, in every training session; I don't understand why Real Madrid plays well against big rivals but not against more modest ones. I can't imagine the players not giving 100%."
He also made clear what his approach would be as a coach.
"If I were a coach, anyone who doesn't want to go to the limit, who doesn't want to give 100% like Cristiano did, your commitment isn't enough... out."
Finally, Toni Nadal highlighted the importance of mentality and values in sport.
"In sports it's not just about winning, it's about how you win, it's the process...that's what Rafael has always tried to convey."
