Toni Kroos didn’t mince words when reviewing Real Madrid’s defeat to Manchester City on his podcast Einfach mal Luppen. For him, the scoreline simply didn’t match the reality on the pitch.

“Manchester City didn't deserve to beat Real Madrid. Madrid was the more dangerous team,” Kroos stated flatly, making it clear that he saw Los Blancos carrying the bigger threat throughout the match.

He doubled down on that idea, adding: “Real Madrid was the team that conveyed the greatest sense of danger.” From his perspective, Madrid consistently managed to reach City’s area and create situations that should have yielded more.

Kroos also highlighted a crucial turning point: City’s second goal. After that moment, he explained, Guardiola’s side “dropped into a very low defensive block,” a shift that exposed what he considers one of Madrid’s recurring issues.

“They’re incredibly good in transition, but they’re not incredibly good at attacking deep defensive blocks,” he observed. Coming from someone who knows the team inside out, it’s a pointed reminder of the kind of tactical situations where Real Madrid still struggles when the opponent closes ranks and denies them space.
