Real Madrid is not going through its best moment, and recent matches have made it clear that the team still has a lot of work ahead to reach the expected level. Even so, Xabi Alonso’s squad still has time to find its rhythm and deliver the performances the club demands. Josep Pedrerol has weighed in on the situation, revealing a significant update regarding the future of the coach from Tolosa.
In the early hours of Wednesday, Pedrerol discussed Xabi Alonso’s situation on El Chiringuito de Jugones. “I’m told it was a friendly conversation in which he thanked Florentino Pérez for the support shown during the Assembly. Florentino assured him of his full confidence and emphasized that the squad is strong. They also agreed that Xabi needs time to get to know his players, acknowledging that some may not fully understand him yet or that the adaptation may take longer. That’s what Xabi conveyed, and Florentino understands that time is required to find the formula he wants,” Pedrerol explained. The journalist also added that the Real Madrid coach’s job is not at stake in the match against Olympiacos.
Xabi Alonso will therefore not be fighting for his job in Athens, but Real Madrid must react to their recent poor form, something only possible through unity between the players and the manager. The team badly needs three points to leave their doubts behind — but it won’t be easy, as they have yet to win in any of their nine previous visits to Greece.
