Talavera came remarkably close to pushing Real Madrid into extra time, despite finding themselves behind on the scoreboard at 0-2 and later 1-3. The Castilian-La Mancha side twice managed to pull themselves back into the match, putting Xabi Alonso’s team under serious pressure. In fact, if not for an outstanding save by Lunin in stoppage time, the tie would have gone beyond 90 minutes.

After the final whistle, Talavera goalkeeper Jaime González reflected on the encounter in an interview with Teledeporte. “There’s a bit of frustration… We had them right there. It’s strange to say that when you’re facing Real Madrid. That goal and my mistake with the bounce hurt. The team gave everything. Real Madrid were really suffering at El Prado,” he said proudly, while acknowledging that he could have done more to stop Mbappé’s third goal.

Asked whether he expected Talavera to create so many chances before the match, González was honest. “No. You always hope to give your best, but Lunin made an incredible save at the end. Otherwise, we’d still be playing now.”

Speaking about Mbappé, the Talavera keeper revealed a respectful exchange. “He was very kind. He apologized to me for that last goal. As for his record, yes, I think he’s going to surpass Cristiano Ronaldo.”

Finally, González admitted that the gloves he wore against Real Madrid will become a personal keepsake. “I’m keeping them and framing them at home,” he said with a smile.
