Before the start of the shootouts, Kepa was seen giving instructions to the Ukrainian goalkeeper. The Spaniard had already faced Bernardo Silva in penalties during his time at Chelsea. Silva beat Kepa by shooting in the middle; he tried to repeat the trick with Lunin on Wednesday, but the Ukrainian easily saved the Portuguese's effort.

In another interesting detail, when Mateo Kovacic was taking his penalty, Toni Rudiger, the Croatian's former teammate at Stamford Bridge, signalled to Lunin where the midfielder would aim at. The Ukrainian stopped Kovacic's penalty too and the rest is already history.
