FIFA has confirmed that Polish referee Szymon Marciniak will take charge of the highly anticipated Club World Cup Round of 16 clash between Real Madrid and Juventus, scheduled for Tuesday.
Widely regarded as one of the top referees in the world, Marciniak will oversee his second match of the tournament, having already officiated the 2-2 group stage draw between Inter Miami and Palmeiras.
This will be the first time Marciniak officiates a Real Madrid match since the dramatic penalty shootout against Atlético de Madrid in the second leg of the Champions League Round of 16 on March 12 at the Estadio Metropolitano.
To date, the Polish official has refereed ten Real Madrid matches, with a record of five wins, two draws, and three losses. His most recent outing before the Madrid derby came in the second leg of the 2023–24 Champions League semi-final, when Los Blancos defeated Bayern Munich 2-1 at the Santiago Bernabéu.
Marciniak has also officiated six Juventus matches, with the Italian side registering four wins and two defeats. His last match involving Juventus was in the 2021–22 Champions League Round of 16, when they fell 3-0 at home to Villarreal.
