In the midst of the ongoing conflict between the Technical Committee of Referees and Real Madrid, the salaries of Spanish referees in the RFEF have been disclosed. Madrid fans, fed up with what they perceive as a continuous bias against their team in LaLiga, are calling for a complete overhaul of the refereeing system. They believe that those associated with the infamous Negreira affair continue to hold power within Spanish refereeing, which negatively impacts the overall fairness of the competition, especially for Real Madrid.
According to Marca, Spanish referees are the highest-paid among the top five European leagues. A referee officiating at least 20 LaLiga matches can earn as much as €264,504 per season. This figure is significantly higher than their counterparts in other major leagues. In the Premier League, referees earn €157,895 for 20 games, placing them far behind their Spanish colleagues. German referees come in second with an annual salary of €194,100.
Italian referees earn around €160,000 per season, while French referees are at the bottom of the list, earning approximately €145,000 in Ligue 1, the least-followed of the five major leagues.
Real Madrid continues its battle against Spanish referees, a well-known stance within the football community. Despite their high salaries, many are surprised by the perceived low standard of refereeing in Spain. This figure does not include additional earnings from officiating international matches in various competitions.
