Real Madrid suffered defeat against Barcelona at Camp Nou on Sunday, a result that confirmed the Catalan side as La Liga champions.
Barcelona players, club officials and supporters celebrated the title across the city with a parade through Barcelona, although the celebrations have drawn criticism from former Real Madrid midfielder Wesley Sneijder.
Speaking to ESPN, Sneijder questioned the scale of the celebrations and pointed to Barcelona’s recent record in European competitions.
“They celebrate a league title as if they've conquered football, and they've been failing in Europe for ten years,” he said.
Sneijder also argued that Barcelona should focus more on improving their performances in the UEFA Champions League.
“They should be worried about getting through the Champions League,” the Dutchman added.
Despite dominating domestic football in recent years, Barcelona have not managed to replicate that success in Europe since winning the Champions League in 2015. The club has suffered several disappointing eliminations, including defeats in ties where they entered the second leg with an advantage.
Sneijder’s comments focused on what he considers excessive celebrations for La Liga success while the club continues to struggle on the European stage.
