Atlético Madrid coach Diego Simeone addressed the media ahead of the Copa del Rey match against Deportivo and was asked about his confrontation with Vinicius Júnior during the Spanish Super Cup semifinal.
The Argentine manager acknowledged his mistake and issued a public apology. “I would like to apologize to Mr. Florentino Pérez and to Mr. Vinicius for what happened. My behavior was not appropriate, and I accept that it was wrong,” Simeone admitted.
He also recognized Real Madrid’s performance in the semifinal, conceding that Xabi Alonso’s side deserved to progress. “The winning team deserved to go through. They earned it. They were close to being drawn into extra time,” he said.
Simeone went on to comment briefly on the final, praising Barcelona’s quality. “Barcelona are a very strong team with a clear and powerful playing style,” he concluded.
