Sergio Scariolo reflected on his team’s dramatic semifinal victory over Valencia Basket in the Copa del Rey. “It was a game that will go down in the history of the Copa del Rey. Two great teams that fought tooth and nail until the very last second. It was a very balanced contest. We struggled at first to find our rhythm against Valencia Basket, just like in the game in Madrid, but little by little we adjusted,” he said.
Scariolo emphasized how Madrid managed to shift the momentum after a difficult start. “We won the second, third and fourth quarters by not giving up on running whenever we had the opportunity. That allowed us to limit their ability to play with an open court, where they are tremendous and had been very effective. But we kept believing until the very end.”
He also highlighted key individual contributions. “It hasn’t been easy, but we showed faith and accuracy at both ends of the court. There were great defensive plays from Gabriel Deck, a crucial block and a three-point play from Walter Tavares, and Mario Hezonja was tremendous in finishing the plays created by the team. He stayed calm and extremely accurate in the decisive moments.”
