The whistles aimed at Vinícius Jr. during Real Madrid’s match against Sevilla at the Santiago Bernabéu have once again put the Brazilian winger at the center of attention. Speaking on Onda Cero, Ramón Planes, sporting director of Al-Ittihad and a key figure in the Saudi Pro League, addressed the possibility of Vinícius one day making the move to Saudi Arabia.
“I see it as a real possibility that players like him could end up in Saudi Arabia. The league has grown a lot, and it’s now possible to attract top-level players who are still in their prime,” Planes explained.
Cristiano Ronaldo paved the way nearly three years ago with his transfer to Al-Nassr, triggering a wave of high-profile signings from Europe to Saudi football. However, most of those players shared a common profile: stars nearing the end of their careers or willing to trade elite competition for massive financial rewards. So far, no player considered among the very best in the world during his prime years has made that move.
Vinícius, who was widely regarded as the world’s top player in 2024, could change that narrative. If circumstances align, Real Madrid’s number 7 could become the first global superstar in his peak to take the Saudi route.
