Even though Real Madrid now has plenty of outstanding choices in the middle of the field, Florentino Perez still wants to add the best and the brightest. Rodri Hernandez, a vital player for Manchester City, a rival team in Europe and probably the best player in the world for his position, is their most recent target.

The Spanish midfielder scored the winning goal in the Champions League final last year, and was even considered to receive the Ballon d’Or by several voices. According to Joan Fontes, Manchester City Sporting Director Txiki Begiristain has told those close to him that Real Madrid President Florentino Perez has set his sights on Rodri. Los Blancos could move for him to take their midfield up another level.

Rodri, who is already 27 years old and still has three years left on his contract, would represent a change from the club's recent transfer strategy. But it makes sense given that Luka Modric is on the way out of Real Madrid this summer or next, and there is little certainty on the future of Toni Kroos beyond next season. It would be something of a surprise if Los Blancos made another major move this summer, bearing in mind that they pursue Alphonso Davies and Kylian Mbappe. The topic of Rodri might come into the spotlight only next summer, if ever.
