Former Real Madrid presidential candidate Enrique Riquelme has publicly urged Florentino Pérez to abandon his plan to introduce private investment into the club, drawing comparisons with Gianni Infantino's recent decision to scrap FIFA's proposal to privatize part of the World Cup's commercial business.

Riquelme shared a message on social media referencing a report by the Spanish business newspaper Expansión, which revealed that FIFA had withdrawn its plan to create a subsidiary responsible for managing the World Cup's commercial rights. According to Riquelme, the proposal closely resembles the model Florentino Pérez is reportedly considering for Real Madrid. "FIFA has managed to rectify the situation... Some should take note... Not everything is for sale."

Although he did not mention Florentino Pérez by name, the message was widely interpreted as a direct appeal to the Real Madrid president and his leadership team.

According to reports, Florentino's project remains active despite avoiding detailed discussion of it during the recent presidential election campaign. The proposal would involve creating a subsidiary to manage the club's football-related business, while Real Madrid would remain the parent entity. The subsidiary would oversee virtually all football-generated revenue, excluding stadium income, which is already managed through the club's agreement with Sixth Street.

The plan would reportedly see between 5% and 10% of the subsidiary sold to external investors.

Unlike a full conversion of the club into a commercial company, the proposal would require approval from Real Madrid's members through a referendum. Reports suggest the first weekend of October could be when Florentino officially presents the project to the club's membership.

According to the report, internal polling has raised concerns within the club over potential resistance. Although Florentino Pérez comfortably won the recent presidential election, it is claimed that turnout figures suggest he received the backing of only a minority of eligible members, fueling fears that the proposal could face significant opposition.

As a result, uncertainty continues to surround the project's future. Critics believe Florentino could ultimately be forced to abandon the initiative if members reject it, drawing parallels with FIFA's decision to shelve its commercialization plan and with the setbacks previously experienced by the European Super League project.
