Enrique Riquelme has once again addressed the Negreira case during his presidential campaign, criticizing how the situation involving Barcelona was handled in recent years.
Speaking in comments reported by ABC, the Real Madrid presidential candidate suggested the issue was not confronted strongly enough from the beginning, which he believes contributed to the lack of consequences.
“Negreira? In 2024, everyone knew about the Negreira case, and yet, at the Real Madrid General Assembly, they were saying that Real Madrid needed a strong Barça. Once Barça left the Super League, that's when the Negreira case suddenly became a matter of interest. Probably the reason Barcelona suffered absolutely no consequences from the Negreira case is because we didn't start addressing it properly immediately when it happened. If we had, the result would have been different.”
Riquelme continues to present himself as an alternative to Florentino Pérez ahead of the presidential elections, promising changes in both the sporting structure and the club’s overall direction.
His campaign has focused on proposals related to signings, management, and the future sporting project, although Florentino Pérez remains the clear favorite due to the success Real Madrid have enjoyed during his presidency.
