The Federation's Compliance Committee (RFEF) has initiated a formal investigation into the extra-sporting activities of José Manuel Munuera Montero, a First Division referee. The inquiry centers on whether these activities violate point 9.1 of the Regulatory Code, which addresses potential conflicts of interest for individuals bound by the rule, including referees. The rule is triggered "when secondary interests may interfere with fulfilling professional obligations."

Munuera Montero, who officiated the Osasuna vs. Real Madrid match on Saturday, is the founder of Talentus Sports, a company specializing in consultancy and sports management. His alleged client base includes notable organizations such as LaLiga, UEFA, RFEF, and various professional clubs, including Atlético de Madrid, Manchester City, Aston Villa, and PSG. However, sources from Atlético Madrid assert that the club has never worked with the company or had any association with it.

This business connection has raised concerns at the RFEF, where the Compliance Department is currently investigating whether a conflict of interest exists. Although the investigation is in its early stages and no formal charges have been filed, should it be proven that Munuera bypassed mandatory reporting of activities that could present conflicts, he could face significant penalties. These include a fine of up to €100,000 and a five-year suspension from refereeing.

In fact, Munuera Montero has erased all evidence of the aforementioned business in the last few hours. This includes the information that was on his LinkedIn profile, which was also erased after the chaos of the last few hours.
