New details have reportedly emerged in the Negreira case, with fresh scrutiny now directed toward the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF).

According to a report by Marcos Sierra of The Objective, the RFEF did not disclose that Spain's Tax Agency had been investigating José María Enríquez Negreira since October 2021, some 16 months before the case became public in March 2023.

When the allegations first surfaced, the Federation held a press conference to explain its position. However, the report claims the RFEF did not reveal that the Tax Agency had previously requested information regarding contracts linked to Negreira, his responsibilities within the Technical Committee of Referees (CTA), and any potential conflicts of interest related to his role as the former vice-president of Spanish referees.

The investigation centers on payments totaling €8.4 million made by Barcelona to Negreira between 2001 and 2018. According to the report, the Federation's then-general secretary, Andreu Camps, described the Tax Agency's request as a routine procedure that did not refer to any specific individual.

However, the report states that the Tax Agency documentation explicitly mentioned José María Enríquez Negreira. It further claims the RFEF was aware of the investigation long before the case became public, raising new questions about the handling of the matter.

The report also claims these developments reinforce Florentino Pérez's decision to pursue action against Barcelona before UEFA through a dossier aimed at seeking accountability over the case.
