Real Madrid Television used its pre-match broadcast ahead of the Sevilla game to review the latest developments in the Negreira case and respond forcefully to Joan Laporta. Just a day earlier, the Barcelona president had claimed that “Real Madrid’s television channel only spreads lies and constantly poisons the airwaves.” RMTV replied bluntly: “If telling the truth is considered vomiting, then we will keep vomiting,” before analyzing Laporta’s testimony before the judge.
According to RMTV, Laporta contradicted himself on three key points, which they described as lies that could amount to perjury. First, he claimed not to know Negreira, despite photographic evidence proving otherwise. Second, he stated that referee reports were handled by the sporting department, while both Luis Enrique and Ernesto Valverde have publicly said they never saw or used such reports. Third, Laporta appeared with boxes allegedly containing the reports, only to later claim that the documents were destroyed every five years. “So who is really vomiting lies?” the channel questioned.
RMTV went further, accusing Laporta of attempting to mislead the public and the judiciary. “You can deceive your members or public opinion, but you cannot lie to a judge,” they stated, warning that a witness who lies can end up being charged. They stressed the seriousness of the case, insisting that there was massive fraud and that all clubs should be outraged. The channel also recalled that a change in sports law allowed the case to fall under a statute of limitations, arguing that the facts would otherwise have justified Barcelona’s relegation.
Finally, while discussing Mbappé’s chase for a historic scoring record, RMTV also took a swipe at refereeing decisions, remarking sarcastically: “Let’s see if the Negreiras allow him to reach the record… he’s two goals away.”
