After Real Madrid’s loss to Celta Vigo in their return to the Santiago Bernabéu, Real Madrid TV once again delivered strong criticism of the referee’s performance. “Even though it did not change the final score, Quintero González’s display was unacceptable. He has clearly been seeking the rewards he believes he deserves, just like during the Negreira era, whether that means international recognition or being assigned to major domestic matches,” the channel stated.

During the broadcast, the comments continued: “Not even he knows what he’s calling. He is one of the new referees, but… he is simply bad, and we will leave it there for now. His overall performance was awful and made no sense. He may be new, but he is very well prepared.” They also accused him of inconsistency: “He did not apply the same criteria and allowed Celta to waste time without punishment. The eight-second rule has become an insult to the supporters, the players, and everyone watching.”

The complaints were constant throughout the match. Among the remarks made were: “Celta is doing what they know best, which is wasting time, and the referee from the Negreira league, who is very poor, should stop it,” “the refereeing is made in Negreira,” “from the Negreira league, I expect anything,” and “classic Negreira details.”

They emphasized that the controversy did not revolve around penalties or offsides: “This was a match filled with unnecessary yellow cards and blatant time-wasting. It wears you down. It was not the reason for the defeat, but the level of refereeing does not surprise us, because it was yet another embarrassing performance on a night when the team did not play well.”

Real Madrid TV also questioned Fran García’s expulsion for two quick yellow cards: “The broadcast did not show the two challenges from the best angle, so we could not judge whether they were actual fouls.” Regarding Carreras’s red card, they added: “It is surprising how fast the referee went after Carreras for what he said. It is always easy to target one player while ignoring others. There were protests throughout the game. Celta protested, Giráldez protested, and the footage exists even if it was not shown.”

To conclude, they once again mentioned Fran Soto, the current president of the CTA: “This is not the level of officiating that a league aiming to be among the best in the world should have. I want to hear what Fran Soto will say and what they will comment on during Review Time, if they even show the incidents.”
