In recent weeks, Nico Paz’s name has resurfaced as a potential returnee to Real Madrid. The Argentine midfielder, born in the Canary Islands, had previously impressed Carlo Ancelotti, but the club chose to transfer him—retaining a buy-back option—so he could gain first-team experience and take on a greater role elsewhere. That strategy has paid off. At Como, under the guidance of Cesc Fàbregas, Nico has grown into a key figure.

Since arriving last summer, Paz has become one of Serie A’s breakout performers, attracting interest from various clubs ahead of the upcoming transfer window. However, Real Madrid still owns 50% of his rights and continues to monitor his development closely, with an option to buy him back.

That option, however, will not be exercised this summer. According to Fabrizio Romano, Real Madrid has decided not to bring Nico Paz back at this time, especially after securing the signing of Franco Mastantuono.

As a result, Nico Paz will remain at Como for another season. Real Madrid retains the option to re-sign him in the future, though the cost will increase: €9 million if they activate the clause in 2026, and €10 million if they wait until 2027.
