Franco Mastantuono had become an essential part of Xabi Alonso’s system at the start of the season. The young Argentine managed to earn a spot in Real Madrid’s starting lineup for several matches in the early stages of the campaign. However, in the biggest encounters, Alonso adjusted his system — opting to include Camavinga instead, which left the South American out. Even so, the former River Plate player had established himself as a valuable asset for the Basque coach.

Things, however, took an unexpected turn when Mastantuono suffered an injury later confirmed by the club’s medical staff. The midfielder was diagnosed with pubalgia, a condition notorious for limiting a player’s ability to perform at full intensity. He joins a list of players struggling with the same issue this season, including Nico Williams and Lamine Yamal.

According to AS, Real Madrid are aware that Mastantuono’s injury is complex and slow to heal, which could complicate his full recovery. For now, the plan is for him to gradually resume ball work and light contact drills, though his return date remains undetermined.

The club’s priority is to ensure the Argentine progresses steadily and only returns to action when the pain fully subsides.
