Real Madrid submitted to UEFA on Thursday the findings of its internal investigation into the events that took place last Tuesday at the Estádio da Luz during the first leg of the Champions League playoff round of 32 against Benfica.

The club compiled information regarding what occurred after Vinicius’ goal, shortly before the match was temporarily halted. The suspension followed the activation of the anti-racism protocol by referee François Letexier, after Vinicius reported receiving insults from Benfica’s Argentine player, Prestianni.

Madrid’s inquiry centered mainly on incidents in the stands, where certain home supporters allegedly directed racist gestures at the visiting players, particularly Vinicius. Within the club, there is an understanding that the alleged verbal remarks attributed to Prestianni may be difficult to substantiate. The Benfica player is accused of repeatedly calling the Brazilian winger a “monkey,” although he allegedly covered his face with his shirt at the time.
