Real Madrid’s steady stream of income from their most promising academy players continues, with Jacobo Ortega the latest to leave the club. The 19-year-old, who never made his first-team debut and was registered with Real Madrid C, has joined Ligue 1 side Racing Strasbourg.

Real Madrid and Racing Strasbourg officially announced the transfer on Monday. The deal was completed for €10 million for 70 percent of the rights to the academy striker. Ortega, who was Real Madrid’s top scorer in their most recent UEFA Youth League campaign, has signed a five-year contract with the French club.

The transfer represents a record for Real Madrid, making Ortega the most expensive academy player sold by the club without having made a first-team appearance.

The historic sale comes during a summer in which Real Madrid have continued to generate significant revenue from players developed at Valdebebas. The club has completed around a dozen academy-related transactions, including the departures of Nico Paz, Gonzalo and Víctor Muñoz, among others.
