Real Madrid have secured the future of one of the academy's most promising talents by renewing Diego Lacosta's contract. The new deal ties down the 18-year-old midfielder, whose impressive development has made him an increasingly important figure at Valdebebas.

Within the club, Lacosta is already being compared to Fede Valverde. Peñarol once nicknamed the Uruguayan "the Little Bird" because of his long legs and ability to cover the pitch with seemingly effortless strides. Lacosta has earned the same comparison thanks to his powerful running, tireless energy, and ability to glide across the field.

The renewal comes during a particularly positive week for the young midfielder. Lacosta recently opened the scoring in Real Madrid Juvenil A's Youth League victory over AEK Athens, adding another highlight to his growing reputation.

Born in Zaragoza on February 16, 2008, he joined La Fábrica in 2020 from Santo Domingo Juventud, a modest club in his hometown, after a brief spell at Real Zaragoza. Since arriving at the club as an Infantil B player, he has made significant progress and is now a key member of Real Madrid C following a season in which he established himself.

Lacosta is a physically imposing midfielder who combines an excellent understanding of the game with the versatility to operate across different positions in midfield. He covers considerable ground, makes forward runs from deep, distributes the ball intelligently, and competes with a character that brings Valverde to mind. These qualities have convinced Real Madrid to secure the future of another promising talent emerging from their academy.
