Alvaro Rodriguez joined Real Madrid in 2020, though he was able to do so three years earlier barring Girona's refusal. The letter that the Uruguayan forward received from the white club when he was just 12 years old has been made public by the newspaper Marca. He was asked to take a test on March 12, 2017 at 9:30 AM in Valdebebas.

"In accordance with the request that you have made to us, we summon you to take a test, on the day and time that appears in the header of this summons (March 12, 2017 at 09:30 a.m.). You must appear at the time of the test with this letter in the City of Real Madrid (...) provided with rubber boots, sports socks (preferably white) and a towel, being able to be accompanied by two relatives. Please do not bring sportswear to the tests from Real Madrid, due to confusion with the one we lend for matches", was mentioned in the letter's heading.

Alvaro's family contacted Real Madrid so that they could test the little boy in Valdebebas, who dreamed of playing with the Madridista jersey. After receiving the letter, his mother, Pilar, prepared everything for the occasion, but she could not get the most important thing: the authorization of Girona, the club where he was at the time.

Alvaro was so disappointed that his family decided to make up for it by spending a weekend in Madrid attending the Santiago Bernabéu Tour and a Real Madrid game. Thankfully, what did not occur in 2017, did occur in 2020, when Alvaro joined the merengue entity and started his career in Valdebebas.
