Real Madrid's opening La Liga match against Real Sociedad has been postponed after the club secured at least one representative in the World Cup semifinals.

Either Brahim with Morocco or Mbappé, Tchouaméni and Konate with France will reach the final four of the tournament, triggering the league's policy of guaranteeing players three weeks of rest before returning to club action.

The official calendar approved this week states that a first-round match can be postponed if a team has a significant number of players involved in the World Cup semifinals or final.

"On the first day of the first matchday, those teams that had players, we'll see the number, in the semifinals or finals of those competitions, in this case the World Cup, would play during the week. The rest of the teams would play," Javier Tebas said.

He also added:

"Statistically, it's clear that Barcelona and Real Madrid probably won't play that weekend of August 16th, and Athletic Bilbao has many players with Spain, and hopefully they'll be in the semifinals or final at least. But other clubs can start. At least six or seven matches will be played that weekend."

Real Madrid vs. Real Sociedad has now been rescheduled for August 26-27. Other opening-round fixtures, including Barcelona vs. Athletic Bilbao, Atlético Madrid vs. Málaga and Celta Vigo vs. Osasuna, could also be postponed depending on the progress of national teams in the World Cup.
