Real Madrid has reached a breaking point. After years of claiming to be on the receiving end of unfair treatment and attempting to address the situation through different channels, the club has now decided to escalate matters. The controversial red card shown by referee Gil Manzano to Dean Huijsen against Real Sociedad has become the final straw.

What makes this move particularly significant is that Madrid’s complaint is not born out of defeat. The team still managed to secure victory, which underlines that this action is not an excuse but a stand against what they see as long-standing injustice.

According to journalist Miguel Ángel Díaz of Cadena COPE, Florentino Pérez and the club leadership have set their sights beyond La Liga and even European football. Their intention is to raise the issue at the global level, making FIFA aware of the repeated refereeing decisions they feel are biased against them.

Madrid believes the shadow of Negreira still lingers over Spanish football, arguing that despite the payments ending years ago, the refereeing attitude remains unchanged — or even worse.

The club insists it does not seek preferential treatment but simply fairness. While FIFA has limited authority over the Spanish referees’ committee (CTA), Madrid views this as a necessary step to internationalize the issue, highlighting that what happens week after week in La Liga is not just a domestic concern, but a matter for the wider football community.
