Enzo Fernandez has become Real Madrid's primary midfield objective. In recent hours, the club has decided to focus its efforts on signing the Chelsea midfielder after exploring several alternatives. One of those options, Mateus Fernandes, is now considered out of reach, with the Portuguese midfielder reportedly preferring a move to Tottenham, where he believes he will have greater opportunities for development.

As a result, Real Madrid are preparing to open negotiations with Chelsea in the coming days. A major boost for the Spanish club is the player's reported willingness to join, with Enzo said to be ready to do everything possible to facilitate a move to the Santiago Bernabeu.

From the outset, Enzo has been Jose Mourinho's preferred midfield target. While Real Madrid also evaluated other options, including Mateus Fernandes and Ayyoub Bouaddi, the Argentine has always remained at the top of Mourinho's shortlist.

Bouaddi, despite being highly regarded by the club's scouting department and closely monitored by Juni Calafat for several months, is not considered the ideal profile for Mourinho's immediate plans. The Portuguese coach is looking for experienced players who can contribute at the highest level straight away while helping younger talents grow around them.

For that reason, Real Madrid have now prioritized a move for Enzo Fernandez. Only if negotiations prove impossible are they expected to revisit alternative targets.

Mourinho reportedly views the Argentine as the complete midfielder for his project. His ability to cover ground, lead both on and off the pitch, and dictate play from midfield makes him an ideal box-to-box presence for the new-look Real Madrid side.

The biggest challenge remains Chelsea's stance. The Premier League club recently sold Marc Cucurella, easing some financial pressure, while manager Xabi Alonso is believed to value Enzo highly. However, Real Madrid are encouraged by the player's desire to join, a factor that could become increasingly important as negotiations develop.
