The Santiago Bernabéu will reopen its doors on Wednesday, August 26, for Real Madrid’s postponed La Liga opener against Real Sociedad. José Mourinho’s side will host Pellegrino Matarazzo’s team after securing their first three points of the season with a victory at the RCDE Stadium, while Real Sociedad arrive after a narrow defeat to Real Betis.

The Bernabéu will also host a special tribute to the Spanish national team following their World Cup triumph more than a month ago. As has happened at other stadiums, including San Mamés and the Riyadh Air Metropolitano, Real Madrid will use the occasion to celebrate the national team’s achievement, according to El Partidazo de COPE.

Real Madrid plan to give special prominence to Marc Cucurella and Mikel Oyarzabal, the only players on the pitch who represented Spain during their World Cup triumph in the United States. The two players will pose together before facing each other for the full 90 minutes.

Given the nature of the tribute, Spain manager Luis de la Fuente is also expected to attend the match at the Santiago Bernabéu, as he has done at other stadiums during the opening weeks of the season.
