The atmosphere at the Santiago Bernabéu was tense on Sunday night, according to sources close to Real Madrid. Despite securing a 2-1 victory over Rayo Vallecano thanks to a stoppage-time penalty from Kylian Mbappé, sections of the crowd repeatedly jeered the players throughout the match.

Vinícius Jr. and Jude Bellingham were the main targets of the criticism, with even the official supporters’ group, Grada Fans, joining in chants demanding more from the squad.

“Some players did not understand the lack of support,” one source told The Athletic. “There were players who felt the fans should be behind them not only in good moments. Others stressed that their focus remains on performing at their best regardless of the atmosphere.”

Head coach Álvaro Arbeloa addressed the situation in his post-match press conference, acknowledging the pressure coming from the stands.

“I respect the Bernabéu crowd and I will always ask for their support,” Arbeloa said. “The Bernabéu pushed us, and that helped us win a very difficult match.”

Despite being just one point behind Barcelona in La Liga and still well positioned to reach the Champions League round of 16, the mood both inside the dressing room and among supporters is described as increasingly critical, with tensions rising after a series of turbulent performances and results.
