Real Madrid will take part in the revamped Club World Cup, scheduled from June 15 to July 13—a unique tournament in terms of format and timing.

Traditionally, football contracts run until June 30, but this new schedule poses a logistical challenge. For Real Madrid, two key players—Luka Modric and Lucas Vázquez—have contracts set to expire on that date, right in the middle of the tournament.

Both are team captains and experienced figures in the dressing room, and the club intends to resolve the issue swiftly by extending their contracts for at least the duration of the competition. The plan is to finalize two-week extensions immediately after the LaLiga season concludes.

The extensions will likely retain current terms, but what happens afterward remains uncertain. This summer could mark the end of an era for both players.

Lucas Vázquez, who has primarily played as a right back, faces stiff competition next season. Dani Carvajal is expected to return fully fit, and the signing of Trent Alexander-Arnold appears imminent.

In midfield, Luka Modric continues to show his class despite reduced minutes this season. However, with strong competition already in place and possible new arrivals on the horizon, his future in the squad remains in question.
