The Negreira case continues to generate major attention in Spanish football as new developments emerge during the evidence-gathering phase of the investigation. Barcelona remains under scrutiny over alleged payments linked to refereeing matters over nearly two decades in La Liga, a situation that directly impacts Real Madrid.
During his recent press conference, Florentino Pérez once again publicly addressed the matter, strongly criticizing the situation and insisting that the case must be fully investigated.
According to a report from AS, Real Madrid is optimistic that UEFA could eventually sanction Barcelona over the alleged sporting corruption case.
The report states that officials at Real Madrid believe the legal process in Spain is progressing too slowly, something that has reportedly caused frustration within the club and among supporters.
However, the Madrid side reportedly believes that the involvement of UEFA could accelerate proceedings and potentially lead to sanctions against Barcelona. Possible punishments mentioned in the report include exclusion from competitions such as La Liga, the Copa del Rey or the Spanish Super Cup.
Florentino Pérez already referred to UEFA’s role during Tuesday’s press conference, praising the European governing body after recent cooperation between both sides following the resolution of the Super League conflict.
According to the report, Real Madrid considers UEFA’s intervention increasingly possible due to the improved relationship between the club and the organization in recent months.
