Real Madrid medical director Niko Mihic has criticised the scheduling of matches, arguing that football calendars fail to consider the impact they have on players' health. Speaking to EFE during the XV Sports Medicine Global Summit, he highlighted the demanding schedule facing the team this week.

“Once the season starts, our biggest challenge is getting the players back in shape. The schedule is brutal. For example, we have three games this week, including a trip. We're going to play in Greece and arrive back in Madrid at 5 or 6 a.m. on Thursday, and then they ask us to play in Valencia on Saturday night. It's incredibly detrimental to our players' health,” he said.

Mihic also questioned why Real Madrid have been scheduled to play on Saturday rather than Sunday, like the other teams, following their midweek trip to Greece.

“You work with what you have. This Saturday, when we play at 9:00 p.m., seems like a threat to the player's health. I don't understand why we have to play on Saturday and not Sunday like the other teams. Basically, in my opinion, they don't take into consideration the health and the potential harm they're causing the player,” he added.
