Real Madrid returned to action with a convincing 3-1 victory over Espanyol at the Alfredo Di Stéfano Stadium. Pau Quesada's side dominated from start to finish, securing all three points with goals from Däbritz, Beerensteyn and Schröder.

The hosts broke the deadlock just before half-time when Däbritz's cross took a deflection and found its way into the net. Real Madrid continued to control the game after the break, with Beerensteyn extending their lead after an excellent individual performance.

Schröder then put the result beyond doubt with a third goal, producing a brilliant dribble inside the penalty area before finishing. Espanyol managed to score a consolation goal in stoppage time, but Real Madrid held on to seal a 3-1 win in their return to competition.
