Real Madrid continues to monitor the market for emerging midfield talent to secure its long-term future, and Kees Smit has now emerged as a serious target. According to AS, the 19-year-old Dutchman, recently spotted wearing a Real Madrid shirt, is no longer just a name on the club’s radar; negotiations are reportedly gaining momentum.
Smit, who was recently named MVP of the UEFA Under-19 European Championship, has impressed scouts with his vision, playmaking ability, and leadership in the center of the pitch. He is regarded as one of the brightest prospects in Dutch football and is on the verge of a call-up to the senior national team.
The midfielder has been with AZ Alkmaar since the age of nine, and while the Eredivisie club is well aware of his potential, they have no intention of letting him go easily. Smit is under contract until 2028 and does not have a release clause, meaning any deal would require direct and potentially complex negotiations.
However, Real Madrid may benefit from favorable timing. The player’s current salary is modest, which makes the transfer financially viable. Additionally, sources close to Smit claim that a move to the Santiago Bernabéu would be a dream come true, though he does not intend to push for a departure or create friction with AZ.
