The EuroLeague has spent the past year working on a new competition to mark the start of the season, with a Super Cup expected to debut next September.
Several formats were considered during the planning process, including a two-team final, a four-team tournament, and a match between the EuroLeague and EuroCup champions. However, the competition is now expected to take the form of a four-team event.
According to reports, three participants have already been confirmed: EuroLeague champions Olympiacos, Real Madrid, and Fenerbahce. Dubai BC is currently considered the leading candidate to complete the four-team lineup.
Because Real Madrid will not participate in the Spanish Super Cup, scheduled for September 19 and 20, the EuroLeague is expected to stage its new competition during that weekend. An alternative date the following weekend also remains under consideration, depending on the start dates of the domestic leagues and the EuroLeague season.
Several cities are being evaluated as potential hosts, but Dubai and the Coca-Cola Arena are currently viewed as the frontrunners to stage the inaugural event.
